back pain x 5 wks. 7/10 pain turning in bed. same when first sit up. have ra. on 4mg prednisone x 6 mos. have osteoporosis. pain in lower back when bending over. can sit and walk with discomfort but pain 2/10. what is causing it and what for pain?

: I have evaluated many people with spinal conditions. I can't tell you how important a good examination is needed. There are several reasons for back pain, some are related to problems in organs. Spinal pain can come from bones, muscles, ligaments, nerves, discs and often is due to inflammation and dysfunction of several of these. You should see a doctor in person. I wonder if you have a fracture.

Possible: That could explain your abdominal pain too. However, if you have associated vomiting or diarrhea or fever unlikely.

Muscle strain: Most likely you've strained your back & gluteal (butt) muscles lifting something improperly. That's why it's so important to bend at the knees when picking something up rather than just bending straight over from waist (most people aren't warmed up or limber enough for this - watch pro golfers grab golf ball after sinking putt). Go see doc if any pain down legs, loss of strength or incontinence.

See below: Back pain usually comes from a degenerative joint or disc. Sometimes it's from a muscle strain or sprain.  Early treatment options include a short course of nsaids (advil, aleve), gentle massage, moist heat, and focusing on posture.  If pain lasts greater than 2 weeks see your physician.

: Have her examined by her doc. Compression fractures are common on the background of osteoporosis affecting spine and among others and her doc would be best to further clarify.

Muscle spasm: Back pain after bending may be the symptom of a muscle spasm unless you are known to have degenerative disc disease or another back problem related to your vertebrae or nerve. More history would be helpful as well.

Muscular v disc: This is either muscular issue if only several weeks. If longer, it may be from a disc issue that could be a tear in the disc or a herniation.  If muscular, it will get better by about 6-8 weeks and 90% of discs improve over time. Otc meds can help as can heat &/or ice as well as guided exercise & activity modification.  Lifestyle changes like weight control, not smoking & regular exercise are key.

what could b causing pain under right rib when bending over? when i stand straightup & stretch i can feel something move back into place then its fine

Rib cage: You could be experiencing benign instability of the rib-vertebra junction or rib-sternum junction. Somtimes inflammation of the joints where the rib meets your vertebra in the back or where the rib meets your breast bone (sternum) in the front can cause pain and a sense of the rib moving in and out of place. If symptoms persist see your doctor.

i am having problem s with my back  i think it is a disc problem .it hurts when bending or working .what can be done so i can keep working as landscap?

You need: an evaluation by a spine specialist ....and Physical therapy to strengthen the :paraspinal" MUSCLES on either side of your back bones (vertebrae) so you can do your job without pain.
Ask your Primary Care Provider (PCP) for a referral.
