can i take azithromycin and doxycycline together for treatment of syphilis? took 3g of azithromycin at one time and 500 mg per day for 15 days and 200 mg a day split into two doses of doxycycline for 14 days?

: There is no interaction between these 2 antibiotics but side effect on the stomach may be worse. Furthermore, azithromycin is not recommended due to high resistant rate. If you can't take penicillin or penicillin-related antibiotic, you can use doxycycline alone for 2 weeks in early syphilis.

Usually is: At the proper dose, this is generally effective.Azithromycin is unusual in its action as it can be given in a single dose, attach to the fat cells in your body and leak into your blood over a week or more to kill germs. It might kill the chlamydia by itself, but the Doxy will back it up to be sure.

is it safe to take doxycycline hyclate 100mg and azithromycin 5 day dose together as a chlamidya and gonorhea prevevention? my doc prescribed both.

Atypical, but safe: This is an unusual choice of drugs for this purpose. Normal preventive treatment would be a shot of ceftriaxone 250 mg or cefixime 400 mg by mouth; plus either one dose of azithromycin 1.0 g or doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for 7 days. This combination for 5 days probably will be effective, though. The two drugs together could cause stomach upset and/or diarrhea, but no serious safety problem.

i am experiencing  urethral discharge. i have 1 g of azithromycin and i have doxycycline for 7 days. no rocephin, but together will it cure gonorrhea?

Not reliable: These two drugs together often are OK for gonorrhea, but not always. You should also have the ceftriaxone (Rocephin) shot. It's a pretty much painless injection, so why not?

Not sure: Both are antibiotics, but each has pros/cons for specific types of infection.  For new respiratory or sinus symptoms, neither may be necessary (we are trying to do a better job limiting antibiotic use when not really indicated).

Yes and no: Although, alcohol may not be detrimental while on these particular antibiotics, it's of no good, otherwise, especially if used excessively.

See a urologist: Active infection with chlamydia should have been eliminated by this therapy, but you may be developing complications of the infection in the way of scarring, etc., or you may have a different problem.  Have a urologist examine you.

how many times can you take/use an antibiotic before becoming permanently resistant to it? a few years ago i used doxycycline 7 days, azithromycin 3 days and moxifloxacin 14 days. will these work again if needed?

: Exposure to these antibiotics will most likely not cause increased resistance. Antibiotics should be used as needed to treat specific infections.
