i have had muscular atrophy in both of my legs i had it my whole life and i'm 19 now my mom said i have it because i was born premature will it ever go away?

: Have you ever been evaluated by a neurologist? If no, you need to be seen if you truly have muscular atrophy. Premature alone should not cause muscular atrophy of the lower extremities. If you do not have any other symptoms along with muscular atrophy and your leg motion is normal, your leg muscles may be small but but not atrophic, trained exercise will improve that.

pmr says that i have "atrophy of the left medial gastrocnemius" yet both legs measure the same size. how could i have atrophy?

Reports can err: But, either you do or do not yet have externally discernable atrophy. If you have CRPS, the chances that you do or will are not insignificant. As I've urged - work closely and well w/ your doctor to obtain the best possible outcome. Try to find a good Health Psychologist to support you through mgmt of this chronic degenerative condition. Better is good compared to worse.

Other muscles: There are other muscles besides the gastroc's that contribute to the shape and size of the calf.    If only the medial gastrocnemius is shrunken, then the measured diameter of the calves might be the same. If by CVI, youre referring to chronic venous insufficiency, the amount of swelling of the veins may also distort the apparent size of your calf muscles.

Treatment?: Rehab doctors often use muscle relaxers for spasticity such as baclofen and Tizanidine.  If these are not helpful, next steps may include Botulinum Toxin injections into the spastic muscles or intrathecal pump.

was doing squats yesterday, noticed my muscles twitch in both legs when contracted. stopped when relaxed. read that contraction fasiculations can be a sign of mnd. really worried. i have widespread twitches, doc says anxiety. no weakness. no atrophy.

Trust your doctor: Motor neuron disease in a 29 year old without weakness with isolated fasciculations would be at best uncommon.

Both legs: Tingling in both legs is unlikely to be caused by nerve impingement, but more likely to be caused by a deficiency of calcium or magnesium or be due to a demyelinating process like multiple sclerosis. A neurologist is best to evaluate and advise you if symptoms persist. Appropriate testing will be done. In the meantime you could try taking calcium and magnesium recommended by your pharmacist.

See your doctor : Leg pain can be coming from numerous sources. It can be anything from a pinched nerve in the spine to a circulation problem to arthritis.  A good history and physical examination by a primary doctor is the best place to start.
