atenolol makes me a little lightheaded 50mg a day. but i get even more dizzy if i opt to take a little extra dose of 25mg. why is this?

Multiple: Talk with your provider.  Fatigue is a common side effect with beta blockers, such as atenolol.  A different beta blocker could be tried, your amlodipine could be increased, or an alternative drug could be substituted.  Make sure you check with your prescribing provider before making any changes.

This is a disorder of blood pressure regulation. Beta blockers help your body stabilize blood pressure changes when changing positions. I suspect that when you don't take it because you slept in you get a fall in blood pressure and dizziness.

Many reasons: Dizziness after standing up can be due to orthostatic hypotension if your resting BP is too low or you're dehydrated. It can also occur due to bradycardia, or slowing of the heart rate (HR). Atenolol decreases both your HR and BP.
