Open lungs up: Atelectasis of lung means there is no air iin a portion of lung. This occurs if  a branch of the bronchi leading to that part of the lung is blocked by mucous/phlegm or even a foreign body (like an aspirated piece of food for example). Often use of cough, bronchodilators can open bronchi up and clear phlegm or a bronchoscope can be used to suction it out.

Yes: Atelectasis simply means that there is an area of the lung where the alveoli (air sacs) are collapsed or not completely inflated.  Linear atelectasis usually means that this involves a very tiny portion of the lung.  This is usually a transient finding unless there is something blocking the larger airways.  Bronchiectasis, however, is not usually reversible.

Probably: Atelectasis is collapse of the lung.  If you have bronchiectasis, you may get recurrent mucus plugging and the lung that is supplied by that area can collapse resulting in "linear atelectasis".

The lingula is the: Smallest lung segment on the left side.  Atelectasis means collapse.  A central lung cancer could obstruct the airway and lead to collapse.

No: Atelectasis is just the alveoli at the lung bases not inflating. Sometimes we see that in hospitalized patients who aren't breathing as well as they should post-operatively. We try to get patients to expand the lungs with using an incentive spirometer or coughing.

i had a mcrp mri and it  showed non specific atelectasis bilateral lung bases.  could this be lung cancer or copd?

Not cancer: Atelectasis is not cancer. It is essentially a sign that some areas of your lungs are not getting as much air due to either blockage or restriction of some reason. This can be seen with foreign objects in airways, scarring, infiltration or poor lung airway movement.

i had a ct scan of my abdomen and pelvis. said i have minimal dependent atelectasis at lung bases. i'm 44. my mother died of ipf at 43.should i worry?

No, that: is a common incidental finding of doubtful significance.
