GYN MD exam: The best recommendation is to see a GYN MD for examination and a determination of your menopause status. Low estrogen levels can cause painful intercourse in women around and after the cessation of periods as the vagina is no longer as "stretchy" as prior to that event. this condition can be treated by Rx.

You can take a friend or relative to be with you in the exam room when you see the doctor to make it less frightening for you. There is no home remedy for an I diagnosed disorder.

Mild trauma: Part of the cause may simply be the increased blood flow to the area during arousal, but you may also not be lubricating sufficiently, leading to increased irritation.  If you are using a lubricant you might be sensitive to it, and latex condoms can cause allergic reactions.  I have also seen reactions to the partner's deodorant soap!
