Not directly: Arrhythmias will not cause major sleep disturbances directly unless you are having significant pauses in rate or decreased cardiac output. Medications for heart disease (or other diseases) can cause sleep disorders. If your cardiologist clears you of these concerns, get a sleep study (polysomnogram) and have it interpreted by a specialist in sleep medicine.

Flip Flops : An arrythmia or iabnormal heart beat may be of several types.  A tachycardia or rapid rhythm feels like a racing heart but not brought on by exercise.  A slow heart beat may lead to fatigue or passing out.  The most common arrythmia is due to extra beats which feel like a "flip flop" sensation due to the extra early beat or a pause after the beat with a "sinking" feeling in the chest.

Finally, sometimes it is just idiopathic -- which means we cannot find a cause.

Other potential tests for longer term monitoring can include a monitor that implants under the skin. There is also invasive testing for arrhythmias by a Cardiac Electrophysiologist called an Electrophysiology Study.
