i am not a good pill taker, currently am taking amox-clav 500 125 mg tablets. my throat is very irritated due to the bronchitis, my pharmacist said it was ok to cut the pill in half. im still having trouble, can i crush and put in peanut butter?

Prolonged cough: Prolonged cough after getting bronchitis is one of the signs of asthma. You should have a lung function test at either an allergist or pulmonologist.

Bronchitis: Means "inflammation of bronchial tubes" usually associated with wheezing as well as cough.

Dextromethorphan: Look for something with dextromethorphan in it... that will work better than guiafenesin. My personal favorite is Mucinex (guaifenesin) DM. (Actually any product with a DM behind it should have dextromethorphan).  Cough is usually worse at night because of the body's biorhythms. It is worth looking into 'why' you have such a bad cough -if this doesn't work. (Sometimes if you have reactive airways it's worsened)

healthy male, 51-years old. have very bad bronchitis since january 31. i was prescribed meds and i was also told to take mucinex dm max every 4-hours. i have been taking this every 4 hours since jan 31. how long can i keep taking this every 4 hours?

Too often, too long: Mucinex DM is to be taken twice a day for only few days during peak symptoms.if you still experience cough and respiratory symptoms after 1 month it’s time to let your prescriber know.

Viral vs bacterial: A viral bronchitis is characterized by a non-productive cough and will usually clear in a week.  Antibiotics will not help, and prescribing antibiotics for viral bronchitis will lead to resistances and side effects.  Bacterial bronchitis is associated with yellow or green mucus with more inflammation and will take a longer time to heal if not treated., with a lot of coughing and fatigue.

Not bad at all: The same organism which is causing pharyngitis is causing bronchitis and it is not bad, and both can be treated together depending id caused by bacteria or viruses.
