: The claritin dose safely can be adjusted to 20-40mg a day. You can try zyrtec 20-40mg a day instead as well. Most often this will resolve over the next week or 2. An immune response from a viral illness (i.e. common cold) is the most common cause of hives in children.

Minimal: Claritin (loratadine) is a new generation antihistamine with a very safe side effect profile.  There is a slight risk of drowsiness that can be seen with increasing dosages of claritin.

Antihistamines: Nyquil contains a sedating antihistamine and Claritin (loratadine) is a non-sedating antihistamine.  It is very unlikely that there would be adverse effects from taking these at the same time at usual doses.

Maybe ok, but...: Claritin is a once a day antihistamine, but some forms of it are every-12-hours. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is an every-6-hours antihistamine, but some forms are every-12-hours. If one takes a normal dose of Claritin and then a normal dose of benadryl (diphenhydramine), (diphenhydramine) it's unproven that there will be any extra benefit, but the person will be drowsy from the benadryl (diphenhydramine). They are mild-mannered meds, so a bad reaction isn't expected.

For allergies: Claritin (loratadine) is an antihistamine that's used to treat allergic rhinitis (hay fever). It won't treat cold symptoms. For colds you need decongestants for nasal/sinus congestion, Guaifenesin and/or dextromethorphan for cough, and throat lozenges for sore throat.
