If your acne is worse, a systemic antibiotic can help, and a dermatologist can use the big guns. You shouldn't need to rely on a home remedy even in our loony health care system.

Best acne treatment: There is no best acne treatment that suits everyone. The type of acne, the age of the patient, pregnancy plans, hormonal status, diet  and a number of other factors have to be considered. Is acne scarring? Is there a possibility of a yeast folliculitis or rosacea? All of these factors have to be accounted for. Please see a dermatologist for treatment that is suited to your particular situation.

Yes: For best results, all the acne creams (benzyl peroxide, retin-a, astringents. Antibiotics) should be used daily if tolerated.

If topical benzoyl peroxide as tolerated isn't clearing you in 2 weeks, you'll need prescription-strength from your physician.

You may be a rx for a topical retinoic acid derivative, the oral contraceptive pill (if you're female), topical clindamycin, a systemic antibiotic such as tetracycline, or a dermatology referral for possible isotretinoin. All acne is manageable today; it's not a hygiene or lifestyle problem. We can help.
