i have an anterior placenta and need a c section. dr didn't mention this would be an issue but google listed major complications? should i be concern?

Anterior: Depends upon how far the lower edge of the placenta extends. If it is low lying it may need to be cut through in order to get to the baby. This could result in extra blood loss. Prior to your section discuss this issue with your OB.

Placenta Previa: Placenta previa occurs when the placenta is covering the opening of the cervix. Vaginal delivery is possible in mild cases of previa. Placenta accreta is a different condition where the placenta gets "stuck" to the uterus. While the risk of accreta increases when you have previa, that risk is low if you have never had a c-section before. Follow-up with your obstetrician regarding delivery dates.

i'm o+, my husband is ab+. what's the likelihood of our baby having neonatal anemia? high risk pregnancy w/ maternal anemia and planned c-section cutting through anterior placenta previa.

Not likely: Even with your blood types as they are, this is very unlikely to effect the baby. 
This type of C section is higher risk, but don't worry,I have done it several times and I am sure that your doc will handle it fine if they are prepared.

Not necessarily: It depends on the hospital policy. A normal placenta may or may not be sent to pathology. You could request that it be sent for examination by a pathologist.

if a placenta has an extra lobe is it always connected to the main placenta? is it possible it could be hidden and not seen at delivery (c-section)?

Sonogram: Accessory lobes will always be connected in some capacity. They are usually seen by sonogram. Yes they can be missed during delivery. It would be hard to miss during a c section as the doctor is able to physically look inside of the uterus fairly easily.

Not common,happens: It is not common to have retained placenta with a Csection, but it can happen.Does not usually cause you any harm.

Yes: In almost all cases, some cases though with partial type or just the tip of placenta reaching the cervix and go into labor proceed without that horrendous bleeding, very rare, in these days with all the advances in diagnostics, medications, anesthesia and surgery, no one would take chances, for the safety of the mother and baby ,

i have partial plac previa -is it true that migration is less likely if the placenta is posterior or if there has been a previous caesarean section?

Perhaps: Placenta previa is more common with a previous c-section. It is best to follow with an ultrasound in 4 weeks or so, rather be concerned at this point.

can you have retained placenta after a c-section? if so, does that mean you had accreta that no one noticed?

Accepted Answer

Placenta: Placenta accreta is when the placenta sticks and does not come off.
