im 26 years old.suffering from spotting between periods since 8 months, had pcos and started taking birth control pills but still spotting between periods and lower back pain. is it cervical cancer?

Get checked: If you haven't had one recently, it is recommended to get a pap smear.  A pelvic exam will be done in the office, and they will be able to visualize the cervix, check for infection and any lesions suspicious for cancer. They will also take samples of your cells and you may be tested for HPV, the most common sexually transmitted infection. Certain types of HPV increases your risk for cancer.

Much more than!: The increased risk of cervical cancer from use of birth control is tiny, if at all, depending on what studies you read. However, the hpv vaccine reduces your risk of cervical cancer by 75-80%, so it is way better! you figure if there is an increased risk of 1-2% from birth control pills, or even it was as much as a 5-10% difference, (which no way it is), then the vaccine really wins out.

Variable: Pap screen is very reliable so it is unlikely to go from normal to cancer in one yr without  going through precancerous stages that are easily diagnosed on Pap. There are many reasons for spotting in a young woman; cancer is the last to worry about.

Normal: this is mild withdrawal bleeding since you missed 2 days. Just keep taking pills and go right into your next pack after finishing this pack.

Probably not cancer: If you had a pelvic exam when the pill was prescribed, cervical cancer would have been obvious on examination. Even if not examined, a normal pap smear "a few years ago" makes cancer very unlikely. Your next pap smear will tell for sure. Endometriosis usually causes pelvic pain especially during menstruation, not just spotting. The pill won't interfere with diagnosing either one.

can birth control mask (hide) the symptoms of reproductive diseases such as endometriosis or cervical cancer? im going on the pill to regulate my period. they believe my spotting is from hormonal imbalances.

NO: BC pills will not mask GYN disease in most cases. A pelvic ultrasound will pick up extraneous illness.

No: This is a direct result of not following the instructions of how to take the pill. Not only to are taking a chance of getting pregnant, abut also, "messing up" your hormones.
You should consider using a barrier method.

Huh?: Birth control pills don't increase your risk for cervical cancer. Taking the shot will reduce it. I can't see how the two are related.

i missed 2-3 birth control pills 1 week before period, i had my period like normal but now 2 weeks after my period am spotting still is this normal? i have not missed a pill since then?

: Spotting is not uncommon at this time in the cycle when ovulation occurs. However, if spotting persists in the next cycle and it seems not related to ovulation then you should see a gynecologist. Good luck.
