if i had an allergic reaction to the z pack, what alternatives are there for me?

Drug Allergy: Z  pack means Azithromycin which is a macrolide  antibiotic. Clarithromycin (biaxin), Erythromycin are from the same group. So you can be allergic to these also. Your doctor need to know  you are allergic to azithromycin.

There are many other classes of alternative antibiotics. Your doctor will decide accordingly if you need antibiotic in the future.

About 2 weeks: Zithromax has a half life of 72 hours.  So it takes about 2 weeks to clear from your system.

Stick to instruct: It's best to stick to the instructions with the z-pack.  The dosing and timing is meant to allow a fairly constant, and set, amount of antibiotics to be maintained in your system.  This set dosing allows for maximum effectiveness against the bacterial infection.  If you take the z-pack pill a few hours before or after the 24 hour mark, this isn't a big deal.  But stay within 4-6 hours of the mark.

Course off pack: NO, you have to start with a loading dose of 2 tabs,followed with one a day for 4 days,important to follow instructions

: With this med you have some options. Timing is not that critical. You could actually take it all at once, but that would increase the rate of GI side effects. This med is gradually absorbed and stored for much longer in the body than other such meds. A few hours either way has little effect in overall treatment success.

Diarrhea...: ...Is the most common. Allergy, cardiac effects, other problems are possible but extremely rare. The biggest concern, of course, is helping bacteria become resistant, but since Azithromycin is never used to treat very serious infections, this is less of a problem than with other antibiotics.

Different antibiotic: Azithromycin and Amoxicillin are used to treat many common infections and are both effective for many of the same infections.  Azithromycin is from a class of antibiotics called macrolides.  Amoxicillin, as the name implies, is a penicillin derivative.  There are some specific infections which only Azithromycin could treat and vice versa.
