i've heard that alka seltzer works for utis. is that true?

UTI and Alka Seltzer: In a single word "no". Antibiotics are used to treat the bacteria that cause uti's and alka seltzer is not an antibiotic. As it may cause the urine to be less acidic, making easier for bacteria to multiply in the bladder, do not use it to treat a uti. See a doctor and have her prescribe the appropriate antibiotic after a urine is sent off to be cultured.

Alka seltzer: Alka seltzer is basically Aspirin and sodium bicarbonate.  There is nothing curative, in regards to infection, in any form of alka seltzer.

Depends: This is a group of products rather than one.Most are considered ok if the  baby is healthy but the Aspirin containing forms should be avoided if baby has a virus.

Cough medicines: Alka seltzer plus has i believe Acetaminophen and phenylephrine in it which is a decongestant but not an antihistamine. It also has dextromethorphan cough suppressant. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is an antihistamine. So yes you can take them together of added effect on sinus and nasal congestion. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can make you sleepy.
