: It may not be earlier than for some one with two ovaries. One ovary can make all the hormones needed in the pre-menopausal state. Ovary is controlled by the Pituitary gland.

will you go through menopause after a  partial ovary removal/partial oophorectomy?

Accepted Answer

Unlikely: Assuming that you have your other ovary, removal of part or all of the second ovary will not put a woman into menopause.  The remaining ovary will still produce estrogen and ovulation will occur every month from the remaining ovary.

Need hormones: Most of the time  discussions about ill effects of hormonal replacement therapy are on peri menopausal & menopausal woman , not for your age group of 30 . At your age needed to keep integrity of vaginal epithelium, loss of libido , atrophy of genitals , fatigue weakness , mood swings and on , so you need them , risks out weigh the good benefits. Speak to your m.D you need them.

Menopause: If your ovaries are out, you are menopausal;  the ovaries make estrogen. See you doctor for estrogen.

i am in surgical menopause due to hysterectomy and oophorectomy. i'm on 1.5mg estradiol (morning) and 400mg progesterone (nightly). what is the optimal ratio of these two hormones? i feel really bloated with progesterone and wondering if too much?

Hormone changes: The body will ultimately adjust to the changes in hormone production following unilateral removal of an ovary, but I have seen many patients have temporary menopausal symptoms (including mood changes) after unilateral oophorectomy.

Sx of menopause: You will quickly develop the symptoms of menopause that otherwise would have begin 8 years ago, but were postponed by the estrogen. You will also quickly begin to lose bone calcium at an accelerated rate.

Accepted Answer

Libido: It all depends if both ovaries were removed. If it were, it is similar to male castration and your main source of female hormones are removed. However, other organs/glands of your body secrete small amounts of the other hormones including testosterone which is responsible for libido.
