Yes: Heart problems can be related to adhd drugs. Each one for adhd lists many heart problems as side effects. That's why i prefer to find and treat the cause of the problem rather than just cover symptoms with drugs that have some very serious and even life threatening side effects. Everyone can read about drug side effects online before filling a prescription and can ask for a non-drug treatment.

Question in error: Stimulants are the primary class of adhd meds, and they do indeed tend to increase hr and elevate bp.  There are non-stimulant meds for adhd such as strattera, (atomoxetine) Intuniv or tenex, and Kapvay that are not stimulants and do not cause either se.  The increased hr continues each time one takes the medication, but there has been no evidence that the elevated hr causes problems, short or long term.

Stimulant SE: Stimulants activate the fight-or-flight system, elevating both hr & bp.  Either that or some other effect can cause some people to feel anxious.  Usually dose related & sometimes gets better with time, but the anxiety can be bad enough to merit switching to a different med class.  Sometimes one stimulant class will do it and not the other; nonstimulant adhd meds much less likely to cause anxiety.

He can talk to a : psychiatrist about his medication &amp; self-medication history, as there are non-stimulant medications approved for use in adults with ADHD, engage a therapist to help him with organizational skills &amp; join CHADD.org to learn about work accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act. He can see his primary physician about his cardiac risk factors. But,  it's his choice to do any of these.

Unlikely: Serotonin Syndrome may cause fevers and seizures but unlikely dementia or heart failure.

Speak with your doctor if you are concern of the dosage and quantity of your medications

Later in life?: "Adult" ADHD means it begins in childhood but persists into adult life. I am assuming that in your case "late in life" means after the age of 40? I would be highly skeptical of an initial Dx of ADHD in your age group. I would be much more concerned about thyroid hormone levels, autoimmune conditions, drug interaction effects, dementing syndromes e.g. Alzheimer's, vascular disease, etc.

None: There are no drugs which are 100% safe. All drugs have side effects. No drug is 100 % effective. It would be great if there was a medication which is 100% effective and with no side effects. There ain't such a drug. An evaluation is needed and recommendations for treatment should be provided by the examining physician.

CNS stimulant: This drug block the reuptake and increases the release of norepinephrine and Dopamine in extra neuronal space. As in any potent CNS stimulant, if abuse, the result can be catastrophic. Use it as directed by your physician. Now be careful when you combine ritalin, Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) and methylphenidate as i can see in your medication. It's dangerous.

Yes: Some adhd medicines are amphetamines, which can increase the heart rate.
