"they are but a symptom of the disease" borrowed from aa. Yes they drive the addicts routine but it is that routine or lifestyle that causes all the problems. And not all addictions involve drugs but can be just as destructive.

Perhaps: Opioid drugs lower testosterone in men and interfere with the menstrual cycle in females; both can  contribute to infertility.  Thc also reduces testosterone and sperm counts but I am unaware if it will lead to menstrual problems without other co-occurring medical diseases.  Use of stimulant drugs and/or alcohol may lead to malnutrition which may reduce fertility  as well.

1 reason for change.: Homework assignment?   Will discuss 1 reason.  When a person develops more & more of a singular focus, it excludes other things from their life. They may not have time for family or friends. They may miss work or church, family outings etc., because they are either using, trying to get the subtance to abuse or recovering from substance use. This means that other people & things loss importance.
