I bet other univ have similar sites.

Intake: You need to meet the criteria for the specific condition being studied by the clinical trial.  For example, if the clinical trial was for depression, you would need to meet the criteria for depression.  You would go to the clinic and be evaluated.

One resource is clinicaltrials.Gov as well as web sites of major centers -- eg mayo clinic, cleveland clinic, etc.

Usually not: All the clinical trials are registered with cliniccaltrial.Gov, and monitored by irb (institutional review board). The patient safety data are mandatory in all the trial protocol. It is very difficulty to hide any safety data. If any issue comeout, the trial can be terminated early. However,  keep in mind the results of most clinical trial are negative.

Clinical trials involve comparing one approach/choice/treatment option with another & checking outcomes. Key methodology is double blind & ideally cross-over design with outcome measures to be used determined in advance. Double blind: neither participants or people near them know who is getting which.

Depends: It depends on what your objective is. If you are healthy and want to make money or you have altruistic tendencies (want to help humanity advance in medical knowledge), you may consider enrollment. Same, if you have a disease that has not  been discovered a cure for and a study is enrolling patients to experiment a new drug on.
