Scientific Rx: If you have the luxury of several over-the-counter acne medications, then you can experiment with using the retinoic-acid based medication where you have the blackheads, and the salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide where you have the whiteheads. More seriously, if you're not clear in two weeks, get with your personal physician.

Common: Inflammatory acne regularly causes swelling. You neglected to designate your birth control!!!!! Some birth control helps acne, some makes it worse. Often SPIRONOLACTONE is used with birth control to turn off acne.

Hit it HARD: Acne on the trunk won't respond well just to topical agents though they may be useful. You'll probably end up on a systemic antibiotic for a while &/or be offered tretinoin. Acne is a serious, non-lifestyle-related disease and a serious personal and professional liability that requires 21st century medicine. Good luck.

Things to try: The best over the counter product is benzoyl peroxide. If that does not work try talking to your doctor about prescription medications. If that does not work see a dermatologist for an expert opinioin

Bumps on face: Could be eczema or food/ other allergies. If used antibiotics and no benefit may consider topical  coconut oil or steroid  for 7 days. Could also be rosacea but usually that is on the nose an in older individuals  f/u with doc/dermatologist

Quite a few options: For treatment of acne, over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide gel/cream is quite helpful. If desired, a doctor can add an antibiotic gel/cream such as Cleocin (clindamycin phosphate) gel. If more help is needed, prescription retinoids such as Retin-A or Differin gel can be used instead of benzoyl peroxide. Oral antibiotics such as tetracycline can be used also. If acne is quite severe, a dermatologist might use oral Accutane.

Options: A dermatologist can make the scars less apparent, though they cannot be made to vanish, using fillers, laser treatment, abrasion or surgery. Before you decide, look at the hollywood leading men who have chosen to keep their acne scars for character (jet li, steven seagal, charlie sheen, tommy lee jones.) it's your call (and you partner's if you have one.) good luck.

Benzoyl Peroxide: The honest answer is that acne is not cured, its treated.  Sometimes you will require seeing your doctor for perscription strength medication.  You can start however with over the counter benzoyl peroxide soap and topical creams.  They work pretty well for mild to moderate acne.
