Sharp shooting pain: Sharp shooting pain sounds worrisome.  You should be evaluated, especially if you have any medical issues like diabetes.

Simple Care: The real question is what not to do that slows down healing. Avoid using alcohol, peroxide, Hibiclens, Betadine, and bleach solutions. Inflammation ( red, hot, swollen, tender) is important to healing  so anti-inflammatories (Motrin, Advil) are bad. Cover the area with a clean dressing changed every other day  and protected from trauma.  Antibiotics do not help healing unless it is truly infected.

can a fiberglass cast on your leg leave bruises and abrasions?

Accepted Answer

Maybe: Bruising usually not caused by a cast, more often the result of the injury of surgery that caused you to need a cast in the first place.  If the fiberglass is sharp at the top or bottom of the cast in can cause abrasions.

See picture: Kaposi's sarcoma: "the tumors most often appear as bluish-red or purple bumps on the skin".                                     Abrasion is superficial scrapings of(damage to )the skin.

Infection?: Spreading rashes after an injury to the skin are usually a symptom of infection with fungus or bacteria.

Bruising: is caused by bleeding under the skin. It spreads along the muscle and tissue planes and will slowly disperse over 7-10 days. It is normal for its shape to evolve and change over a period of several days, exactly like you describe. Hope this helps!

Acrylic nails: If you had iron nails in a bowl of water and the water spilled on your lap, you would not worry.  You need not worry now.  You got water in your lap.
