Too long: This requires a longer answer than there is room for here. The significant changes on pap smears are mainly due to hpv virus. Depending on the pap smear abnormality you can be observed for a number of years or, if more serious, be treated right away. Most early hpv caused pap abnormalities return to normal  within a few years. You still need to be followed closely though.

Abnormal Pap: It surely sounds like your physician is doing everything right. You have no progress to worse disease.

The only other option is to have a hysterectomy.  If you are done having children and are done worrying about your cervix then having a conversation about hysterectomy seems like a logical next step.

It depends.: A pap smear is a test used to screen for cervical cancer, where a doc takes a sample of cells from the cervix. There is a wide range of abnormal results. Some pap tests come back showing you have a virus called hpv which is extremely common in sexually active women. Pap smears can also show that the cells of the cervix themselves are abnormal, showing pre-cancerous or cancerous cells.

Ann pap: Depends on degree of abnormality. We follow guidelines. For example ascus may repeat pap every 4 months x 2 years, agc needs colposcopy. This is something to discuss with your gyn doctor at office.

It depends,,,: It depends on the results.  If it's low to high grade, things like colposcopy and excision biopsy are done.  If biopsy shows carcinoma in situ, the same schedule for paps is maintained.  But if it's more invasive things like surgery and chemotherapy may be done.  It's important to keep getting paps every year if they're abnormal as it is there to prevent the abnormalities from becoming invasive.
