i've been told a vt ablation is very unusual.  under what criteria should it be performed?

For refractory VT: Vt is  a reentrant rhythm occurringusually in the region of previous scar tissue in the left ventricle (previous infarct).  The primary therapy for patients with cardiomyopathy is implantation of an icd.  Patients who have recurrent therapy from thier icd and unresponsive to antiarrhythmic drugs then ablation is considered.  There are VT ablations performed in patients with normal hearts as well.

ablation done 2 years ago and since have had chest pain near apex and abnormal rhythms multiple tests by mds and no answers. what else can it be?

Not easy to know: There are multiple possibilities here, without knowing a lot of details, any answer given would be pure speculation.  If you have not seen a general cardiologist (as opposed to an ep) for a second opinion, it might be time to do that.

while in icu i experienced a heartbeat like i did during a cath ablation a irregular thrusting heartbeat what was i feeling! it was hard to breath?

I am imaging you : Just had a cardiac catheterization for an arrhythmia possibly atrial fibrillation. All patient in ICU are monitor. No idea what happen to you. The only person able to answer the question is your cardiologist. Possibilities are premature atrial or ventricular contraction, run of tachycardia, or even a short run of transient a.Fib. Consult your cardiologist if you continue with the problem. Out icu?

have endometrial hyperplasia, no abnormal bleeding (app. 11mm @ day 13 of cycle). dr. advises ablation. is that recommended? please explain.

No: Your are 44 years old, are you still having your periods? If you are, then 11 mm endometrial thickness is not considered endometrial hyperplasia in a menstruating woman. Besides, even if you were postmenopausal endometrial hyperplasia may imply dysplasia or cancer and ablation is the wrong thing to do since you may mask a cancer. If you have no abnormal bleeding then ablation is not indicated.

acute onset atypical atrial flutter (many prior ablations, including afib) 9 days ago & clot found on watchman, so cardioversion aborted after tee. is mild stationary bike exercise helpful or hurtful with a thrombus in the face of ongoing flutter?

: Discuss with your team. Are u an anti-tcoagulation?   Be certain you do not have a low blood/body K problem. Such as taking diuretics or you have primary aldosteronism. Ask about moving to a trial of high K diet such as DASH diet.

are heart ablations safe w/o much complications for irregular heart beat? why is there so much negative talk about it. even my cardio says last resort

Accepted Answer

Ablation: Ablation for arrhythmia is an effective treatment for some arrhythmias and less effective for others. It is performed by burning or freezing parts of the heart to deal with the pathways of the abnormal rhythms. There are complications possible and 100% effectiveness of the procedure isn't necessarily frequent. For these reasons we don't jump to the procedure but use it when appropriate.

can i get an ablation reveresed so i can have a baby or what can i do?

: I have not heard of an "ablation" for birth control. Need more details. Ligation maybe?

before i qualify for a second ablation procedure to re-treat af, do i need to be in a state of constant or persistant af? how is persistant defined?

Accepted Answer

Depends: It depends in part on how far out from your first procedure you are, whether or not you are taking anti arrhythmic medications and whether or not you are symptomatic.  Persistent AF is simply AF lasting more than 7 days.  It is not uncommon to have recurrent AF in the first few months after ablation and still be arrhythmia free in the long term but you will need to be followed closely.

Radiofreqency ablatn: This is a now-common way of destroying a small amount of tissue such as a faulty electric link in the heart, nerves from a source of intractable pain, or little tumors.  Interventional radiologists have done amazing things in developing this technique.
