hello doctor,
this is shrinath from india.
recently i have developed a very mild soft bulge on the upper right abdomen (just below ribs). i have no pain and it disappears while sitting. i am 27 yr old, 5 feet 7 inches and 80 kgs. pl. help to diagnose?

Could be anything : May be a skin cyst but also could be a hernia.  Also could be some muscle problem (like rectus divarification) or something more serious like an enlarged liver of spleen. Will need an examination of your abdomen and may require tests such as bloods xrays and scans to sort out.  Please see a doctor.  All the best.

Hernia?: Possibility is a hiatal hernia that happens when part of your stomach bulges up through the diaphragm and into your chest. 
The diaphragm is a sheet of muscle that separates your belly (abdomen) from your chest.
There are three main types of hiatal hernia: 
1) sliding
2) paraesophageal
3) Mixed. 
Most people who have a hiatal hernia have a sliding hiatal hernia.

Hernia : A soft bulging mass in the lower abdomen as described in this question is most likely due to a hernia. This is commonly caused by a congenital defect or weakness in the natural seams of the abdominal muscles. Abdominal obesity is a major contributing factor and weight loss may help prevent progression. These can occasionally become complicated if become strangulated.

i can feel a small cyst when i touch my lower right side of abdomen. no pain when touching it. not seen, no bulge. it's under the skin. size of a nut.

Abdominal cyst: May be lipoma or cyst  or fibroma would consider ultrasound  to identify it and follow up with  surgeon. May or may not need biopsy or excision depending on imaging findings.

From your limited: description, it still sounds like a hernia that is too small for clinical detection at the time of exam.  It could also be a lymph node or a benign tumor such as lipoma.  If your doctor is not worried about it, your should be reassured that it is probably something trivial.

It depends: On what you mean by bulging. If it seems like there is liquid in there, that can be a sign of ascites, fluid in the abdominal cavity from conditions like liver disease. Of course, overeating can cause a lot of bulging, and obesity is quite common in the US.
