Hopefully never1: A tooth will not abcess just because you touched the exposed tooth with your tongue. If you needed a crown, then there is obviously a lot of damage to the tooth and that can lead to further complications. Contact your dentist and he/she will be happy to explain your specific situation.

See your doctor: Antibiotic use is associated with oral thrush; your doctor can prescribe an antifungal (either topical solution or a pill to take) that will help clear up the infection, as well as potentially an oral anesthetic to help with the pain.

Infection: An abscess indicates an infection (usually bacterial).  Often antibiotics are given and sometimes surgical drainage is required.  Most importantly, the cause of the infection needs to be treated.  Have an oral surgeon evaluate.

: Thrush is a fungal disease that leaves white patches not bumps on gums or cheeks. Since you have no teeth or dentures, it could be an irritation on gums from eating something hard or pointed. It could be a small root tip or piece of tooth that was left in area. See a dentist for x-ray and exam.
