Not sure of reason: The main reason for light periods is a change in hormone levels. Causes for what seems to be a light period can include: thyroid problems, eating disorders, excessive exercise, initial periods for a girl, use of an intrauterine device, oral contraceptives, perimenopause ; implantation bleeding in early pregnancy which rarely occurs.

Wait..: Wait another week and repeat pregnancy test. Most urine pregnancy tests are positive by the 8th week. If this is not related to pregnancy then hormonal imbalances could be a possibility. You need to see your doctor and get blood work done in order to find out.

Take a test: If your current symptoms were caused by pregnancy then that implies that the hormone levels are high enough for detection on a pregnancy test.  You could check a home pregnancy test and see. It is most likely to early for a test and too early for these symptoms to be caused by pregnancy

Fibrocystic changes: You could have fibrocystic changes. This is the most common cause of breast pain.  It can be aggravated by caffeine, stress, menstrual cycle and hormonal supplements. If you are over 40, then you should have a mammogram and ultrasound.  Please get evaluated by a breast specialist.

Irregular bleeding: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections ;  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

There : There are other conditions which may cause similar symptoms as early pregnancy. Once the pregnancy is ruled out one should look in to other issues giving similar symtoms as early pregnancy. Please see a physician to get further evaluation.

hi, i was wondering how long after conception does a woman experience pregnancy symptoms? i had my period on sept 30, 2011 and my husband and i had unprotected sex on oct 15, 2011.  i have been feeling sick to my stomach throughout the day and my breasts

The : The symptoms of pregnancy can start once implantation occurs. This typically happens about 8-10 days after ovulation. Based on your LMP of 8/30/11, you likely ovulated on or around 10/14/11, if in fact you conceived, then the timing for pregnancy symptoms is consistent. There are early prediction pregnancy tests in stores that can predict pregnancy a week before your next period is due. I suggest you take one to be sure, or you can always follow up with your primary care provider or gynecologist for testing.
