4 year old has acne like sores around mouth region for quite a while now.  have tried vaseline, coconut oil & polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin).  what is it & treatment?

Pimples: Pimples in a four year old is not normal. He may have impetigo, so best have him checked by your pediatrician.

See eye MD: Any time a lesion grows or does not go away, see your doctor. This lesion may be a simple sty, or chalazion, that responds to hot compresses and squeezing, but you should see an eye MD in person to confirm before treating.

i've had a tubal ligation four years ago. i'm now 29 years old and after the procedure i've had a problem with acne. i've experienced other things too?

Unrelated: There is no reason a tubal ligation would have anything to do with return of acne.While many look at this as a teen issue, some have acne off &amp; on well into their 30's and beyond. The issue is a chance association not a cause. Reversing  the procedure would not trigger a cure that would not happen in time by chance alone.

i am very concerned about my son. he's 16 years old. the suffers from acne four. just a few days ago its appears a lymph node inflamed down his chin.

May need antibiotics: Severe cystic acne results is caused by an infection by skin bacteria such as staph aureus. The development of an inflamed lymph node is a sign of infection. I suggest bringing him to your family physician. He may benefit from antibiotics.

Scientific Rx: If two weeks on over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide doesn't clear you, get with your physician. You may be a rx for a topical retinoic acid derivative, the oral contraceptive pill (if you're female), topical clindamycin, a systemic antibiotic such as tetracycline, or a dermatology referral for possible isotretinoin. All acne is manageable today; it's not a hygiene or lifestyle problem. We can help.

is it common for acne to worsen as twenty year old?

Acne: No, but it certainly can happen that way.  There are patients who don't have any acne problems for their entire lives and as they get older, they start having problems.  If you have a hard time controlling it with routine measures, you may need to see a dermatologist.

Acne: If your child is just beginning to develop acne, i would recommend an acne wash which can be purchased otc.
