Whooping sound
Coughing followed by a "whooping" sound is a symptom meaning a person is coughing so frequently that he does not have enough time in between coughs to take a normal breath. When he finally has the chance to breathe, he breathes in air so fast that he makes a whooping sound. Pertussis (whooping cough) can cause this type of coughing.
