A blackout is a symptom in which a person faints. Fainting is a temporary loss of consciousness due to a drop in the blood supply to the brain. A blackout can also mean an episode of temporary loss of vision (one's view turns to black) due to a drop in the blood supply to the head and eyeballs, without fully fainting.
