Neural tube defect

Share

Link copied

Neural tube defects is a birth defect in which a baby is born with some splitting of his spine and/or spinal cord structures. The problem can occur anywhere along the spine, but "spina bifida" at the bottom of the spine is the more common condition. Women take folic acid (a vitamin) before and during pregnancy to decrease the chances of their babies having neural tube defects.
