Fasciotomy

Fasciotomy

Muscles are surrounded by connective tissue known as fascia and is particularly dense in the arms and legs. When the underlying muscle is injured, due to infection or blood clot, it will swell. If the swelling is severe, the fascia works as a tourniquet and can reduce the blood flow to the muscle leading to more damage. Fasciotomy is a procedure that cuts open the fascia and relives pressure.
