A neurosurgeon is a specialist in the evaluation and treatment of disorders of the nervous system. This includes brain, spine, and peripheral nerve problems. The most common surgeries done are for back/neck problems, head injuries, brain tumors, aneurysms, and strokes. Training for neurosurgery is usually 6-8 years of residency training after medical school. There is frequently fellowship training.
