Can You Get a Prescription Without Consulting a Doctor?

In short: no. You must have a virtual consultation first so that the doctor can assess whether you need the medication. 

Your doctor will still need to ask questions about your medical history and understand more about your symptoms before they can issue a script. 

So, while you can’t get a prescription without seeing a doctor, you can get one without visiting a doctor’s office — as long as the drug isn’t classed as a controlled substance (see below).

Can You Get a Prescription After a Text-only Consultation With a Doctor?

Yes, but only after you have met and consulted with your doctor by video. Your doctor wants to meet you first by video to make sure they are giving you the best possible care, including any helpful prescription medications. Once your doctor knows you, they can respond to text messages for routine refills or to answer other questions you may have.
