Atrioventricular block results from impaired or absent conduction of electrical signals from the upper to the lower chambers of the heart. This may be caused by increased nervous system activity, medications that slow conduction in the atrioventricular node, or damage to the atrioventricular node. The severity may vary from no symptoms to slowing of the heart resulting in dizziness or fainting.
