Get to know Dr. Mark Owolabi, HealthTap PCP

Mark Owolabi, MD — a trusted primary care physician on HealthTap — has many professional interests. Since 2015, Dr. Owolabi has practiced within several areas of medicine, including: family medicine, integrative medicine, obesity medicine and culinary medicine.

He is passionate about improving the lives of his patients — especially those with chronic illnesses — by providing them with access to affordable, high-quality healthcare. He says, “A personal doctor is needed to not only respond to health emergencies, but to help uncover early diseases that may limit one's lifespan. As an integrative medicine specialist, I believe in supporting the body's inherent ability to heal itself. So when treating chronic illness, I spend a lot of time investigating the root issues contributing to disease.”

As a HealthTap primary care physician, Dr. Owolabi appreciates how virtual primary care empowers him to offer care and expertise to those who might not be able to otherwise get it. “I want to be able to improve the lives of folks living with chronic illness in rural parts of the country, who are unable to see a doctor on a regular basis. In many small communities there are no doctors trained in diet, exercise, or non-drug approaches for chronic pain.” He also notes the increased convenience and accessibility of virtual care, “It is convenient. You can see a doctor outside the hours of 8–5 p.m.”

Dr. Owolabi believes strongly that everyone should have a personal care doctor. “Our modern western lifestyles of poor quality diet, insufficient sleep, and high stress set the stage for chronic disease. Many of these diseases progress under the radar without symptoms. A personal doctor is needed to not only respond to health emergencies, but to help uncover early disease that may limit one's lifespan.”

Dr. Owolabi’s patients have come to really appreciate Dr. Owolabi’s medical practice philosophy: “As an integrative medicine specialist, I believe in supporting the body's inherent ability to heal itself. So when treating chronic illness, I spend a lot of time investigating the root issues that are contributing to disease. I seek to first optimize the foundations of health (diet, physical activity, sleep, and stress management). Then I incorporate nutritional supplements & medications into the treatment plan as needed to help patients achieve their health goals.”

When Dr. Owolabi isn’t helping his patients, he enjoys practicing his Spanish language skills, tending to his pet plants, playing soccer, hiking or watching the Arsenal Football Club play.
