Desensitization, hyposensitization, immunotherapy are all terms to describe allergy shots. Allergists attempt to ↓ ige-mediated hypersensitivity to various substances, including pollens, molds, animal allergens and insect allergens, by administering ever-increasing amounts of an antigen until the patient tolerates natural exposure to the allergen with decreased or no symptoms.
