Mitral stenosis
Mitral stenosis is a narrowing and stiffening of the heart valve separating the top and bottom chambers of the left side of the heart. This narrowing makes it more difficult for blood from the top chamber of the heart to flow to the bottom chamber. Many cases of mitral stenosis are caused by a prior infection with rheumatic fever.
