Growth hormone deficiency is a medical condition in which the lack of growth hormone causes failure of children to grow and gain weight. Blood tests can determine whether a child is growth hormone deficient and needs replacement. Growth hormone replacement does not help children grow taller if they are not growth hormone deficient. Instead, it may cause dysmorphic features such as a large, prominent forehead.
