In brief: No

If you have discoloration, your venous insufficiency is serious and you are at risk of developing a leg ulcer, even if your legs feel fine.
Elevate your legs. Wear compression stockings daily. See a phlebologist or vein specialist. Phlebology.Org for a referral. Treatment is office based and under and hour. Covered by almost all insurance.

In brief: Leg discoloration.

Thr brownish leg discoloration which happens as a result of venous insufficiency is due to long standing increased back pressure in the veins especially around the medial ankle area.
This high pressure leads to leakage of blood cells into the skin resulting in brownish discoloration. The discoloration is not reversible but could lighten by reducing the venous pressure and using emollients.

In brief: Often

Once the underlying venous problem is eliminated the discoloration often fades over time.
