Do people know in what ways prematurity affects the child's health later in life?

In brief: Depends

We know that the more preterm an infant is the greater the risk.
We also know that the greatest number of patients with cerebral palsy are are in the term gestation group (reason for CP unknown). We do know that premees (depending on the type & number of complications) may have delayed development, visual, and learning difficulties.

In brief: Prematurity

A lot is known about he consequences of being born early.
The effects on health tend to occur early in life and improve with age. The other major areas affected are development and learning (educational problems), and these are often not apparent until school age and are usually persistent. Go to http://www.Healthychildren.Org and search on "prematurity".
