In brief: Varies..

Melanomas are often pigmented (dark) lesions with asymmetric borders and different colors within the cancer.
Other skin cancers are more "skin colored" but often have scaling, ulcerations, prominent blood vessels, or a pearly appearance. All skin cancers enlarge with time. If you have doubt about a spot on your skin get it checked out.

In brief: 3 types of skin ca

1. Basal cell, older, scaly, sun exposure, white/red' 2.
Squamous: red, lesion that will not heal, again exposed body parts. 3. Melanoma: black mole: varied black to brown, irregular edges, grows radially and up and down from skin surface. Any age. The latter is the most lethal and in need of prompt DX & rx.

In brief: Color and cancer

Caucasians are the primary victims of skin cancer.
However, everyone, regardless of skin color, can fall prey to it. Unfortunately, many patients and even some physicians are under the impression that non-caucasian people are immune to this disease. That is one reason people of color are diagnosed with skin cancer at later stages. These delays mean that skin cancers are often advanced and fatal.
