Why do doctors point towards anxiety first? Have you ever had a patient where you thought their symptoms were from anxiety, but ended up not being so?

In brief: They dont & shouldnt

Anxiety disorders are physical disorders just like diabetes or hypertension.
Physical symptoms of anxiety mimic those of other serious illnesses i.E heart attack, stroke. They are true not imagined. The pt. Should be evaluated for all differential diagnosis. Even when pts are referred to us with anxiety, we still evaluate them for other possible underlying or concomitant other physical illnesses.
