Does interstitial cystitis of the bladder cause a lot of uti's?

No. Interstitial cystitis is different from a urinary tract infection (uti), although the symptoms can be very similar. A UTI is caused by either a bacterial or fungal infection. These are usually treated with antibiotics or antifungals. Interstitial cystitis is in the spectrum of a pain syndrome. In fact, in order to diagnose interstitial cystitis, you need to first make sure there is not a uti.
No. Interstitial cystitis is a chronic inflammation of the bladder wall. It causes urinary tract infection symptoms but it does not cause infections. It is distinctly different from a UTI in that it is not caused by a bacterial infection. That is part of what makes it ahrd to treat.

Go to the ER. With the recent placement of the IUD, you need to make sure the pain is not secondary to that. The only way to find out is to see a DR and have exam and labs done. Read more...
Call the doctor. I recommend that you call the doctor who inserted the IUD. You do need to be seen and a urinalysis needs to be checked. This could be done at an urgent care clinic rather than the emergency room but the doctor who inserted the IUD also needs to know about this. Good luck. Read more...

High dose ibuprofen, naproxen, lidocaine patch or vaginal diazepam all worth trying first. ? consult pain clinic. Hope UR on bland IC diet, avoid alcohol, smoking, caffeine, acidic beverages, spicy foods etc. Also have been tried on various IC meds such as amytriptyline or pentosan polysulfate (Elmiron) Read more...
