In brief: Sleep hygeine & aids

Sleep can be improved by improving your sleep hygiene & with supplements.
Get up daily at the same time, sleep at the same time, stop computer/tv one hour before sleep, dim all lights, avoid caffeine after noon, limit caffeine to 12oz or less, exercise earlier. Sleep aids to try are sleepy time tea with valerian root, calm's forte (homeopathic med), melatonin. Low Progesterone can decrease sleep.

In brief: Melatonin

A melatonin dose of 1 mg is a safe sleep aid, frequently used by those who wish to avoid prescription strength sleeping pills such as Ambien and Restoril etc.
In addition, a 3mg dose is considered by many to be an antiaging dose of melatonin to replace the deficiency from the pineal gland as we age. Another option is a 50 mg dose of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) (i.e. 2 otc 25 mg pills).
