I'm on yasmine birth control I had sex last night and today I have to start augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) for my tonsils would I be protected from sex last night?

Yes. Even tho you need to start antibiotics today, since you've been on bcp you are protected from pregnancy having had sex last night. Risk of antibiotics making bcp less effective is low, but safer to use condoms as back up rest of this cycle. Read more...

Minastrin 24 and Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) 875 will I still be protected with my birth control seeing it is a combination bill I am a little nervous about pregnancy?

Possibly. There is some suggestion that amoxicillin can decrease the effect of the ethinyl estradiol component of minastrin. But overall there is limited data to suggest any significant contraception compromise. In the end, you'll still be best served by using a second form of birth control like condoms while using the two medications together. Best of luck. Read more...

Nope. The only birth control pill that is known to affect the pill is a TB medication called Rifampin. Here's a great resource: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/ask-dr-cullins/dr-cullins-birth-control-5444.htm. Read more...

If I am taking augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) for 2 weeks for sinusitis while on Mononessa (birth control) could that cause me to ovulate and/or breakthrough spotting?

Spotting. Clavulanate can interfere with effectiveness of birth control medication and it is quite possible that it has interacted with the hormone and decreased its effective concentration in your blood which has caused you to spot. This is also why it is always advisable to use a backup method of birth control while on such antibiotics. Read more...

I'm taking augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) for a respiratory infection and I use nuvaring for birth control. Do I need to worry about the effectiveness? If so, how long?

Not supported. The package insert for nuvaring states that levels of hormones are not affected by standard doses of 10 days of ampicillin or tetracycline but has not been studied with other antibiotics, so effectiveness should not be reduced. Read more...
NO. Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) has no effect on your birth control. This question was raised 30 years ago. Except for rifampin, antibiotics do not interfere with birth control. The question was raised, investigated, and settled long ago. More important is to question the wisdom of use for "respiratory infection". This is not specific enough to justify an antibiotic. Make sure you understand EXACTLY what you are treat. Read more...
Still controversial. Whether antibiotics, certain classes, reduce effectiveness of hormonal contraception, good that you asked, if in doubt you can use an extra method of contraception in addition while on the antibiotic, a barrier method would be appropriate, good luck. Read more...
