I heard that people with diabetes should now get hepatitis b shots? Is this true? If so, why?

In brief: Yes
Everyone with chronic illnesses, risk factors, or immunosuppression should get the hepatitis b series.
It reduces the risk of developing hepatitis b if exposed. Diabetes is one of many chronic illnesses that weakens the immune system over the long run.

In brief: It is true
Hepatitis b is a serious viral infection of the liver that can cause abdominal discomfort, weakness, and even liver failure.
It is spread through blood and sexual contact. People with diabetes are more likely to get hepatitis b because of using needles to give Insulin and check sugars. And if they get hep b, it is more likely to be severe. So acip recommends the vaccine if diabetic and under 60.
