When a mitral valve repair is done how come all the leakage you had isnt completely eliminated they told me they still see little leakage after repair?

Mitral valve. Mitral repair usually isn't perfect, but then neither is normal mitral valve function. A little bit of mitral regurg is often seen on echo in many of us, post repair it isn't unusual to have some but lots less than caused the surgery. Generally it isn't problematic.

After mitral valve repair, I still have a little amount of leakage, I thought the repair was done to eliminate all leakage, is this normal?

Sounds ok. Slight leakage may be very acceptable and not dangerous. Your docs will monitor and explain. Read more...
Depends. Ideally, after repair their should be no leakage, but depending on the goal of the procedure and the patient, trace to mild residual leakage may be acceptable. Read more...

21 year old had mitral valve repair for leaky valve but after cardiologist told me still see a little leakage is this normal? Will it get worse

It is probably ok. It is hard to absolutely answer your question without actually seeing the echo and knowing what was actually done in surgery. Ideally after repair we would like no leak. It is not unusual to have a small leak after. Typically this will remain stable and you won't need anything done in the future. Your cardiologist and surgeon are going to be your best source of information, however. Read more...
Not unusual. Good repairs may still have some leakage and never need anything more than echo followups. However, some do fail over time and need re- repair or replacement. Read more...

I had mitral valve repair done can I drink alcohol once recoveredcardiologist told me he still sees a little amount of leakage will alcohol make worse?

Drink alcohol? I would check with your cardiologist to be sure some studies show that a drink or 2 a day can be beneficial but not to over do it. It is a little concerning though that you had to go thru such a procedure and one of your main concerns is drinking alcohol. Read more...
Yes and no. Use of alcohol in moderation is not prohibited after valve repairative surgery. It will not worsen the minor residual leakage present. Read more...

I had mitral valve repair done 3 weeks ago. Cardiologist told me still sees a little leakage, if you elevate heart rate, will that make leak worse?

Possible. Rate increase may cause same volume leak with more beats. It the valve does not seat better, then more leak will happen. Some may have less leak as the heart is more contractile and the valve comes together better. Read more...
Well. Maybe transiently, but this should not pose a problem. Some leakage is common, don't worry too much about it too much! Read more...

Why do I still have a little amount of leakage after mitral valve repair done 2 weeks ago. Is this normal? Does everyone have some heart valve leakage

A little is normal. Mitral valve repair seeks to decrease the amount of regurgitation or "back-flow" through the mitral valve, it rarely completely eliminates it. Not everyone has heart valve leakage, but a small amount after surgery is acceptable. Read more...
Not uncommon. There may be a trivial or mild degree of leakage after repair surgery- this may continue to improve. It is certainly magnitudes improved from the severe mitral regurgitation presumably before surgery. A very high percentage of the population have a mild degree of valve leakage. Read more...
Mitral Valve Repair. Valve leaflets are flaps of tissue. It is normal to have a slight leak after the repair. They cannot make the valve too tight it can cause stenosis. They repair and tighten the annulus with a ring usually. A small amount of leak does not cause problems. Read more...

Mitral valve. Yes you will able to drink like the days of old. Read more...
Cardiomyopathy. Alcohol is not likely to directly effect a repaired valve. However, heavy alcohol usage can cause alcoholic cardiomyopathy. This toxic effect injures the heart muscle, diminishes the muscle function, and dilates the heart. Dilation causes valves to leak. Do a lot of people have a little amount of heart valve leakage. I just had a mitral valve repair & they said still minimal amount of leakage. Why?

Not uncommon. With repair you may still have a small regurgitation, but not damaging or overloading. Regular echo followup, is important general health is also important. Non smoker weight , diet, and exercize are relevant. Read more...
Yes. Mitral valve repair even with a small residual leak is better than valve replacement. Your valve is primarily abnormal and it is always possible to have trivial leak after surgery. You will need continued medical treatment with blood pressure medication to prolong the life of valve repair. Read more...
