In brief: Both
I believe that clove oil has both anesthetic and antiseptic properties.
It is a remedy and not a treatment. You may just be delaying a bigger problem.

In brief: Palliative
Masks symptoms but doesn't cure the infection.
You can't fix this w an otc. You really need the service of a pro that's trained to treat the problem not just the symptoms. Please put down the computer andcall your dentst. Your computer can't provide caring knowledgeable professional treatment. Your dentist can.

In brief: Alternatives
Go see a dentist.
Clove oil is not a good solution. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or any anti-inflammatory medication can help with dental pain. Aleve, motrin, advil and even a holistic alternative arnica can help too. But the key is to find the source of the pain and stop it. It sounds like you are suffering. Please get a dentist to help you!
