2 babies both weighing 5lbs 9oz. One was born @ 35.5wks and the other was [email protected] 40wks. Was the full term small for 40wk or the 35wk one big for preterm?

Growth restriction. A term baby weighing 5 lb 9 oz suggests some problems with the health of the placenta, maternal high blood pressure, or other issue that lead to baby not filling out in the normal way. Most will recover their weight after birth and experience catch up growth over the first year, unless the infant has a medical condition that led to the lower weight in the first place.
TERM AND PRETERM. The term baby is small but will survive like the preterm. The weight of the preterm is enough to thrive like the term. So the age difference does not matter for survival.
