In brief: Depends on

How much joint destruction there was.
Usually, if the acute attack was treated soon enough, it should not lead to chronic pain. However, if the inflammation caused enough damage to, cartilage, bone or even nerve (depending on joint or area), it could cause chronic pain.

In brief: Gout

Gout is the deposition of uric acid crystals within a joint space causing inflammations and possible joint destruction.
Usually the first acute attack may be years to decades after increased uric acid begins. May also flair with and without treatment. Important to establish if your are an overproducer or underexcretor for best treatment. May cause chronic pain if not treated or if damage is done.
