In brief: Yes

With a mature 17 year old and supportive parents many procedures are considered such as otoplasty, rhinoplasty, chin augmentation etc.
It is imperative that this comes from the desires of the young patient with careful thought and not external pressure including the parents.

A very common decision is for treatment of bilateral large breasts to be reduced or for treatment of breast asymmetry to help feel better in clothes and for athletics.

In brief: Parental cosent <18y

Information should be discussed & understood by the patient, & parents/guardian, including the details of the surgery, benefits, possible consequences & side effects of the operation, potential risks & adverse outcomes with probability & severity & alternatives to the procedure.
Parents need to evaluate teens physical/emotional maturity. Teen should initiate request & have realistic expectations.

In brief: No

Many plastic surgery procedures can be performed on a minor with parental approval, but not all.
Speak to a plastic surgeon with your parents in tow. Good luck from nyc.

In brief: Parental consent

Plastic surgery can be performed on a minor with *signed* parental consent and full informed consent.
Common situations involve otoplasty (pointy ears), gynecomastia, and asymmetrical breasts, which can all cause emotional distress in teenagers. It is also a good idea to make sure that the primary care physician/ pediatrician is on board. Dr. Ricardo rodriguez baltimore, maryland.

In brief: Not always

Plastic surgery for a teenage is always a tricky issue.
If the have an obvious deformity it may be appropriate. A 17 year old is still developing andante cosmetic procedures may not be appropriate. Seek out a board certified plastic surgeon and get at least 2 opinions before proceeding with any procedure.

In brief: Technically Yes

The more important question really is.
. "should a 17!year old have surgery that will change their appearance?" in my opinion their are certain procedures that i deem reasonable to undergo at 17: rhinoplasty, otoplasty, corrective jaw surgery, chemical peels. These surgeries can improve self confidence for the patients. This should all be well thought out and discussed thoroughly with patient/pare.

In brief: Most procedures

With parental consent a 17 year old would be able to receive most procedures.
The surgeon would determine the appropriateness and timing of the procedure(s).
